1. Literary tie-in (story, poem, magazine article, selection from a nonfiction book, online read-aloud, etc.)

Learning objectives for beginners include: Book care, book selection, returning a book on time, basic library organization (there are books about real "stuff" and books about imagined "stuff"), pre-bibliographic instruction (roles of author, illustrator, publisher), identifying parts of a book (front/back covers, title page, and spine), recognizing common types of texts, elements of a story (setting, character, plot), plot sequencing, introduction to the Super3 (an information problem solving method).
Learning objectives for 1st graders include: Book care, book selection, returning a book on time, library organization, guided independence in the library setting, the differences between works of fiction and nonfiction, pre-bibliographic instruction (content of the title page, copyright page and copyright date), literary awards such as the Caldecott Award and the Children's Choice Book Award, alphabetic principal (alphabetizing to the 1st and/or 2nd letter), beginning catalog search instruction, purpose of the call number, using the Super3 (an information problem solving method).
